Gariep Dam
International Gliding Camp
If you want to enjoy sun-filled gliding days during December and
January, then the yearly Midwaters Gliding Event at Garip Dam is for
you. |

Situated halfway between Cape Town and Johannesburg, in the semi
desert of the Karoo, Midwaters offers luxurious accommodation at the
Aventura Resort, on the banks of the mighty Garip Dam, overlooking the
Yacht basin.
The airfield, with two tarred runways, is a five minute drive away. |

Weather conditions for gliding are amongst the best in the world, and
normally every day is a gliding day. The adjoining village offers a
full infrastructure, including medical facilities.
Every year, for at least 11 years, this camp for glider pilots has
been held, and many record flights, both local and international have
been made from this site.
These include flights by Helmut Fischer and Klaus Holighaus, and many
others. |

The airfield offers avgas and oxygen, and two tug aircraft are
available during the event.
There are a few gliders available for hire, but ideally you should
plan to bring your own. We will give full assistance with the
transportation of your glider to South Africa and we also offer an
exchange trip to Bitterwasser for 6 days.
When you have finished gliding, why not consider a trip to Victoria
Falls, Cape Town or the Kruger National Park?
