Set in magnificent gardens in one of Cape Town's prestigious suburbs, Highlands is a beautifully restored National Monument. Built in 1900 by Sir Herbert Baker, Highlands is considered to be amongst the most important Cape homes of the era.

Here, a warm welcome awaits, where caring staff will attend to you're every need and, with only 14 spacious bedrooms, privacy and personal hospitality are assured.

Elegantly furnished, from every room long sash windows overlook the terraced Italian gardens and water features, two sparkling pools or the putting green.

Relax and enjoy sumptuous breakfasts, with lunch and dinner prepared by our Cordon Bleu chef by prior arrangement. Many hours of pleasure can be attained in the lounge, library, the intimate private bar, Colonial sitting room, romantic dining conservatory or the large elegant billiard room. The winter months are warm and cosy with five of these facilities having a log fire.

Being close to corporate head offices we are eager to discuss rates suitable to the budgets of regular travellers to the city and their conferencing requirements.

We are always happy to make arrangements for your collection from the airport; tours or car hire and can assure competitive rates.

Located in Kenilworth, Highlands is close to golf courses, Newlands rugby and cricket grounds, Rhodes Memorial, also built by Sir Herbert Baker, Constantia wine estates and the acclaimed Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Beaches on the Atlantic seaboard and the Indian Ocean, the airport, Waterfront and Cape Town city centre are 20 minutes away.

Our chef comes to us after many years of training and working with the best. Our range of culinary delights is expansive and will suite any tastes. We have suggested menus and welcome any input when requesting mealtime bookings. The chef also prepares all meals and snacks for conferences and private meals, other than those taken by guests staying with us.
To book for your private party, arrangements can be made through reception.

Highlands is always flooded by natural light, made available from large, long sash windows and doors opening onto the surrounding patios and expansive garden.

Because Highlands lies in a very sheltered area, most meals, for long periods of time during the year, can be taken outside overlooking the lush lawns and putting green on the East side and from the breakfast conservatory overlooking the Italian garden and fountain on the South side

Highlands has areas other than the dining room where guests can take breakfast, lunch, tea or supper. The Conservatory is one of these, shown here during the day.

This area is private from the main house and when set at night with our finest silver and candles, looking over the pool and garden, are without doubt the most romantic settings for intimate entertaining.

Indoor-outdoor African feel. This large, elegant, comfortable area leading from our bar is furnished in leather and wood and is the perfect setting for an evening drink with friends or dining by candlelit lanterns under the African stars.

Imagine spacious, imagine romantic, and imagine panoramic views and you have the 2 Loft rooms at Highlands.
The poolroom has double doors opening onto one of our two swimming pools set in a secluded garden with a gazebo, yet another delightful place to eat or drink sundowners

Five rooms are available. Four rooms with queen size bed and one with twin/king size bed. Only one of these rooms does not have a balcony but is the largest of the five.
Often asked how we differentiate between our types of rooms, the answer is that they may vary in size or view.
All of our rooms are individually decorated, all using well selected pieces of furniture, fine linens and beautiful fabrics.
Each day all rooms are supplied with fresh flowers and fruit..

Five rooms are available. Three rooms have king/twin size beds, one room has twin 3/4 size beds and one room has a king size bed.
All of the rooms have a large balcony large enough to entertain and enjoy the time relaxing, taking in the panoramic view of mountains and sea in the distance. One of these rooms opens onto a patio leading into the garden, as in the photograph.

One room available.
The very largest of our rooms has Italian tiled floor with under floor heating, a spacious suite, spa bath and separate bathroom and its own private balcony. The owner has, lovingly selected each piece of furniture, mirrors and fabrics, for this room. The suite is the ultimate comfort, elegance and pleasure.

Our boardroom is designed for a maximum of twelve delegates. It was originally the dining room of our Sir Herbert Baker home. It still boasts the original pressed ceilings, floors and large fireplace,
Which still burns today. All the necessary equipment is supplied with the added bonus that there are beautiful breakaway areas such as the lounge, library, Colonial sitting room and sunroom all included in our conferencing rate..

Quiet, unassuming elegance, set in peaceful surroundings, at one with nature.

A luxurious, beautiful house and personal, attentive service are what we pride ourselves on.

Guests often comment that returning to Highlands is like coming home. It is a truly special place to stay.
